Here is a complete list of decimal/hex values for the items in Final Fantasy 8. Make sure to change these values in memory only, the savegame files are partially compressed and will fail the CRC check if you modify them without figuring out how to decompress the file. Included is the value for the item type and amount of the first two inventory slots, from that you can see the pattern.
The magic slots are for the second (middle) character’s spell list. Just exchange spells with the other characters after adding them to your list.
